The other day, someone posted on Facebook a short description of how rude they were treated by a local eatery. My thought was, “Does this owner realize that word travels quickly on the Internet?”
They used to say a dissatisfied customer tells 10 people, and a satisfied customer tells 1. Today, a simple post on Facebook can be like telling 1,000 people.
Think about the impact of social media when you do a bad job!
It is hard enough to do your best and hope the word gets spread. Now, I admit, that business owner may have been having a bad day. However, it is going to take a while for his business to recover from the Facebook update.
When you do a good job, do you encourage folks to spread the word on social media?
Perhaps you should.
How can you do this?
Here’s an example… (using a restaurant as an example)
Waitress to customer, “Did you enjoy your meal and service today?”
Customer, “Yes, thank you.”
Waitress, “If Like us on Facebook, and post what you liked about your meal and service, we’ll send you a code for a free dessert on your next visit.”
You can be creative, but that’s just an example.
